Preparation Procedure Guide

Sonogram (Ultrasound)
Abdominal Ultrasound (Gallbladder, Liver, Pancreas, Spleen, etc.)
For Morning examinations
Do not eat, smoke, or drink anything after midnight or on the morning of your examination.
For Afternoon examinations
You may have a clear liquid breakfast but absolutely nothing to eat or drink for at least 6 hours prior to your examination.
Kidney (Renal)
Eat normally with this exam and you will be asked to drink 4 glasses of water prior to the exam.
Obstetrical (Pregnancy) / Pelvic Ultrasound
Drink at least 32 oz. of liquid at least 1 hour before the exam. Do not go to the bathroom as you must have a full bladder for this procedure otherwise you may be delayed. Patients who are in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy need to drink only 16oz. of fluid.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
There is no preparation for this painless non-invasive procedure. Patients are welcome to bring along a cassette or CD to listen to, while undergoing the procedure or you can select one from our library.
Spiral CT Scanning (CAT Scan)
For any CT examination with contrast, do not eat or drink anything for 6 hours before the exam. No bowel prep is needed.

*Please bring films of any prior mammograms so our Radiologist can compare them.
